After 45 minutes of silence where only the voices of his cars are running wildly in the highway, the convoy finally stops in front of The Singhania Mansion.
The wrought-iron gates swing open revealing a property so grand palace. Lush greenery surrounds the estate like a fortress, manicured lawns stretching endlessly under the moonlight.
The cars glide in, one by one, their headlights cutting through the darkness.
At the entrance, a line of maids and family members stand waiting. At the forefront is Pallavi maa, holding an aarti ki thali-the flame flickering shadows across her sharp features. Beside her,Dadi,Siya and other family members watch with curiosity and Everybody is so impatient to watch newly wedded couples.
I wiped my tears discreetly before opening the car door-only to find Agastya already standing there, his hand extended toward me.
Our eyes meet for the second time tonight.
I don't know why, but the moment I look into his gaze, my breath catches. His irises are like polished obsidian-cold, unreadable, lethal. He doesn't blink, doesn't smile, just waits, his aura so dangerous it feels like his stare alone could kill anyone.
I hesitate.
His fingers twitch, impatient.
Finally, I placed my hand in his. His grip is firm and icy.
The moment I stepped outside the car, my legs became unsteady. I bite my lower lip hard enough to taste my own blood. The doors shut behind me with a reality check that I am married to a man whose family thinks I am the real bride.
Pallavi stood at the mansion's entrance, her smile softening when she saw Sana.
"Beta", she said, pulling her into a warm hug,"Welcome home".
The kindness nearly broke her, a tear slipped free on her cheek.
Dadi wiped it away with her thumb cupped Sana's face,"now it's your home and you are our laxmi", she kissed her forehead and said, "Sada suhagan raho beta".
I smiled.
Siya giggled and held her hand with excitement and said,"bhabhi, you're so beautiful, you'll be happy here", and hugged her tightly,"now we are teammates and we will rule here".
Everybody laughed at her statement even sana too and hugged her back whispered ,"okay ji".
Inside the palace stretched endlessly, crowned with crystal chandeliers that hung like frozen waterfalls, their soft golden light reflecting off mirrored walls and polished marble floors. Every corner is decorated with beautiful roses and lavender flowers.
They both stood at the threshold.
"Okay, Bhabhi ji," teased Shivae, holding a small pot filled with rice at the doorway. "Let's see how gently you step into this home”.
Sana smiled nervously; these rituals are new for her. She nudged the pot with her right foot, spilling the rice forward - a symbol of prosperity entering the house.
Agastya watches her from behind.
Then she dipped her feet in a red crimson alta plate, she started to stumble, Agastya held her waist from behind with one hand and her hand with his other hand and steady her.
Their eyes meet.
For a second, neither breathes. His expressions are unreadable but at that moment her heart is ready to betray her as if he can also hear every beat.
Everybody starts teasing and laughing at both of them.
"Aww so cute",teased Ayush and in response he got a sharp glare from Agastya.
Ayush raised his hands dramatically with a smirk on his face.
They maintained their postures and Sana walked slowly inside but he still held her hand with a firm grip giving her support. She is leaving behind her crimson footprints.
"When you step into this house, you're not just our bahu - you're our daughter like Siya and goddess Lakshmi. Our bringer of light, peace, and prosperity. These red prints will mark the beginning of that journey”, Dada ji said.
Everybody admires them with so much love.
Dadi herds them toward the dining table, her voice bright,"Eat, eat! You must be exhausted".
Sana refused to eat and said politely,"sorry dadi, but I don't have any appetite".
And Agastya already left everyone downstairs.
Maa said,"okay, beta take some rest siya will take you to your room" and kissed her forehead.
She nodded.
Siya giggled and held her hand with excitement and didn't let go of her hand,"Let's go bhabhi ji".
while climbing stairs Siya said,"I have prepared your room. Whatever you need I have already kept it there".
Sana swallows,"Thank you."
"Bhai will come around," Siya says, too gently and hugging "you'll be happy here, happy wedding night Riya bhabhi", and with a wink Siya leaves her at the entrance and doors shut behind her, sealing them in silence.
Sana stands frozen in the center of the room, her lehenga pooling around her like spilled blood. The weight of the day pressed down on her—the lies, the guilt, the way Agastya’s fingers had lingered too long on her wrist during the phera, as if he could feel her pulse betraying her.
The room is vast. Colder than she expected. Dominated by deep greys, sharp blacks, and sleek lines that spoke of power, precision—and danger. The marble floor, polished like obsidian.
At the center stood a massive king-size bed, draped in jet-black silk sheets that shimmered faintly under the glow of the mirror suspended above it and in the centre of the bed there were so many petals of roses making heart shapes.
The mirror stretched the length of the ceiling over the bed. The room is decorated with beautiful red roses and scented candles and dim moonlight coming through the big window.
After watching all of these a shiver runs down her spine.
Agastya comes out of the bathroom, he is wearing a white shirt and grey trousers.
Without looking at her,"You should change", he says, voice low but commanding.
She trembles at a sudden voice.
"That lehenga looks heavy", Agastya said. And shows the direction of the bathroom.
Sana nodded and retreated to the bathroom, and the lock clicked behind her—too loud. Her hands shake as she peels off the layers of silk and gold. She looks at the mirror that shows a stranger—A bride, her chooda, her sindoor, her mangalsutra. She grips the edge of the sink, her breath becomes unsteady.
“He knows, He has to know, it's wrong. I. I. Can't. Do. It.”, She stammered.
After taking a cold shower to cool down her nerves she steps back out, wearing his borrowed pajamas (too big, smelling faintly of him).
he was already in the bed, his back to her.
"I don’t care where you sleep," without looking at her, Agastya says, voice muffled by the pillows,"Just don’t wake me up”.
She stares at his silhouette, the rigid line of his shoulders.
